My new e-book: How to Become a Travel Writer

2

The other day my dentist asked me what I do for a living. After telling her I get paid to travel the world, she said, “I want to be you.”

It’s something I hear all the time. From my hair dresser to the stranger next to me on the plane, people want to know how to do what I do. Making a living as a travel journalist is a weird and wonderful job — I get it! I’d be curious, too.

Since being laid off in 2009 and embracing the dream job, I haven’t looked back — or stepped foot in a cubicle — since. So far, assignments for CNN, Travel + Leisure, ESPN, Lonely Planet and NBC have taken me to all seven continents. From a grizzly bear encounter that went viral to learning to fly a plane to sleeping on the side of a cliff, it’s a job that is anything but typical.

Stop dreaming, start doing

The good news is: Travel writing is something you can start doing at any age. As a side gig or a full-time job. No journalism degree is required, and you don’t need to have a writing portfolio.

In this step-by-step guide, I explain exactly how to break into travel writing.

This guide is for…

✅ Those who are itching to travel the world but haven’t figured out a way to do that without going broke.

✅ Content creators and travel bloggers who want to add even more credibility to their resumes.

✅ Those who want to keep their current job or are retired and want to add travel writing as a side gig.

✅ Those who are just starting out and want to make sure they get it right from the get-go.

You’ll learn to…

✅ Confidentially pitch editors and producers

✅ Get invited on press trips where travel expenses are paid for

✅ Get your travel stories published

✅ Find ideas that sell

✅ Network with writers and editors in the industry

✅ Make the most out of each story you publish
